Batik and Fabric Painting

  • 2 Hours
  • 1 – 30 Guests
  • All Skill Levels
  • Bottomless Wine Included
  • Victoria Island — Alali 32, Musa Yaradua

Batik is one of the oldest textile traditions in West Africa. The technique : using wax or stencils to resist dye or paint on fabric has been practised across Nigeria and the wider region for generations, producing the bold, patterned textiles that are among the most recognisable expressions of West African visual culture.
At Alali, that tradition becomes a guided studio session. Guests work directly onto fabric; painting freehand, applying wax resist, or working through stencils to create a finished textile piece that is entirely their own. The result can be worn as a scarf, displayed as a wall hanging, framed as a textile artwork, or kept as a personal object with a clear story behind it.
The session is guided from start to finish by an Alali instructor who walks guests through the technique at a pace that works for the group. No textile experience is needed. What the session asks for is a willingness to engage with a material and a tradition that is worth knowing.
For corporate groups, Batik and Fabric Painting carries a particular resonance especially for sessions built around Nigerian identity, cultural pride, or creative team experiences with a distinctive local character. Every guest leaves with something handmade, wearable, and meaningful.
